We’re a tiny crowd of people organizing MEDICS, it has been like this since the beginning. However, we managed to build beautiful things every year. Despite low numbers, resilience is key for achieving anything, and this time is no exception.
The world right next to us now goes through the most despicable form of manifestation: war. From it, the first to lose are ordinary citizens of all parties involved in the conflict.
Through this statement, our oganisation CONDEMNS and OPPOSES the military invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.
We would like to join the relief effort that Romanians have beautifully set in motion these days by redirecting all exceeding income that was and will be generated in this year’s edition of MEDICS towards official and credited organizations that manage the humanitarian needs right across our borders.
We also invite any student in Ukraine to contact us for help and we will do our best to provide it or to guide them in the right way. Our friends at BIMCO should not hesitate to write to us whenever needed.
We were always and we will remain apolitical, however this issue extends to our core values. Both the right to life and the right to education stand side by side in our minds and in the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We cannot and will not ignore the shaking of any fundamental pillars of our existence. Collapsing one of them would lead to the fall of all others, as proven time and again by history.
This year’s MEDICS will only have live Conferences and Lectures, broadcasted online. We cannot continue as if nothing was happening just miles from where we are, but at the same time we know we must show resilience and offer a breath of normality in times of uncertainty and despair.
This time, science will be a safe haven for the minds.
We’re trying to help as much as we can, in the ways we can.
